Position the refrigerator in a well-ventilated area, ensuring at least 1–2 inches of clearance around the unit (especially at the back and sides) to allow heat dissipation. Blocked airflow can cause the compressor to overheat, reducing efficiency and lifespan. Avoid placing it near heat sources like ovens or direct sunlight, as this forces the compressor to work harder.
Set the temperature according to the stored beverages. For most drinks (e.g., sodas, beer), 34–38°F (1–3°C) is ideal. Use a calibrated thermometer to verify internal temperatures regularly. Modern units often include digital controls, but manual adjustments may require referencing the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Minimize door openings to retain cold air. Frequent access introduces warm air, causing temperature fluctuations and condensation. For units with glass doors, ensure automatic door closers function properly.
